The Orange Springs camp was developed after the name changed to Camp Horizon. Following the model of other assembly camps, cabin sites were sold on or near the camp property. Among those that purchases lots were the Conlon family of Hollywood and the Bradford family of Miami. The Bradford family owned their lots at least until after 2020.
Ralph VanDemark took us on a field trip to see the camp. The original cabins and gymnasium/chapel/dining hall building are much the same. There was a financial crisis of some sort that forced the sale of this property. A Jewish organization purchased the camp and still operate a camp on this site. Some of the funds from the sale were used to support Park of the Palms retirement community in Keystone Heights. Over thirty years later, they were strong financial supporters of Camp Horizon Leesburg and contributed generously to the 2000 pool construction fund (in honor of the help received).
Besides a hand full of photos and memories, not much has been found documented about those years. Many of those involved are with the Lord, or not old enough to have first-hand knowledge of what happened. This we know, many children came to faith in these years and some of the folks in these photos went on to be a part of the new Camp Horizon (Evangelistic Horizons Unlimited Inc) that officially began in 1971.
